Mani's Beliefs about the Environment

Mani's Beliefs about the Environment
The Mani people have different beliefs about the environment and the affects it will have on them. Lots of these beliefs have to do with blood and death.
For example,
1.      When there is a death in the community
a.        The people must move to a new and distant place.
2.      When blood is shed during the birth of a baby,
a.        They believe this is a cause for the illness “Dead Blood”.
                                                                                      i.      “Dead blood” can have a great potential for causing illness
1.      It is “undead blood” because of when the fresh blood start to smell bad or become dead blood
.  The group that has had a baby born into it must move to a new place before the blood is "dead".
3.      When or if one of the Mani people walk in an area where their hair stands on end or that make them feel uncomfortable,
a.        then they cannot settle there
                                                                                      i.       The Mani people consider that area to be haunted by an evil spirit
4.      Another example for an unfit settlement would be where no younger trees grow
a.       is bad because of a spirit that lives there
5.       Mani people can determine where a presence of an evil spirits by the areas with dark-colored termite hills
a.       Cannot be inhabited by the Mani people.
6.      If there is death or sadness in area Mani people will not live there also for some reason.
a.        One the Mani people cannot live in a place where a person has died
                                                                                      i.       The spirit of the dead would bring sickness to the people living there.
7.      Places where children are crying, are shocked or ill, must be abandoned
a.       because a spirit might have been following the group when it moved there.
